Please message us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The RSVP deadline is 1st July 2024. Please respond by this date so we can finalize our guest list.
Hotel Wisteria Blue has been booked for all the guests to ensure everyone stays together and experiences the joy of shared moments and laughter. Couples and families will have access to their private rooms. Single folks, we will have a fun arrangement for you as well.
The hotel is a 5 mins drive from the venue, Amer Greens. We do not recommend that you try to walk this short distance since it involves crossing a chaotic Indian highway.
Cars will be available for shuttling back and forth between the hotel and the venue.
10.12.24 from 10 am : Haldi, mehndi, and bhaat.
In an Indian wedding, "Haldi," "Mehndi," and "Bhaat" are traditional pre-wedding ceremonies that hold cultural and symbolic significance. Here's a brief explanation of each:
Haldi Ceremony:
The Haldi ceremony, also known as "Ubtan," is a ritual where a paste made from turmeric, sandalwood, and other natural ingredients is applied to the bride and groom's body. It is believed to cleanse and purify the couple before their wedding day. The yellow color of turmeric is considered auspicious. Family and friends often join in the celebration, applying Haldi to the couple and participating in joyous festivities.
Mehndi Ceremony:
The Mehndi ceremony involves the application of beautiful henna designs to the bride's hands and feet. All friends and family can also ask for henna to be applied to their hands. It is a social and artistic event where the bride, along with relatives and friends, comes together to adorn themselves with Mehndi. The intricate patterns often include symbols representing love, joy, and the couple's future. Mehndi is not only a beautiful form of body art but is also believed to bring good luck and fortune to the newlyweds.
Bhaat Ceremony (also spelled as Bhaat or Bhaath):
The Bhaat ceremony is a pre-wedding ritual that takes place separately for the bride and the groom. The ceremony is symbolic of purification and preparing the couple for the upcoming wedding rituals. After the Bhaat ceremony, the bride and groom are considered spiritually clean and ready to embark on their marital journey. This ritual is deeply rooted in cultural traditions and varies across different regions in India.
These pre-wedding ceremonies provide an opportunity for family and friends to come together, celebrate, and bless the couple before their wedding day.
10.12.24 from 7 pm : Reception
The reception is a celebratory event that serves as a formal gathering to honor and congratulate the couple, allowing them to receive blessings and well-wishes from family, friends, and guests. The reception is often a more relaxed and festive occasion.
The reception will be held outdoor with the venue decorated in flowers, and lighting to create a celebratory atmosphere. The couple, along with their families, may greet guests in a receiving line. This is an opportunity for guests to personally congratulate the couple and offer their blessings.
11.12.24 from 10:30 am : Wedding (pheras in hindi)
The "pheras" translates to "rounds" or "circumambulations" in English. The pheras will take place outdoor, around a sacred fire, symbolizing purity and divinity. The fire is considered a witness to the vows being exchanged. The bride and groom will take seven rounds around the holy fire, each round corresponding to a specific vow. These vows encompass promises of love, respect, companionship, and shared responsibilities. The priest will recite Vedic chants and mantras during the pheras, guiding the couple through each step of the ceremony. The couple will exchange vows with each round, expressing their commitment to each other for a lifelong journey together. Guests play a special role by witnessing and offering blessings to the couple.
11.12.24 from 4:30 pm : Singing and dancing - Maangar and Sangeet
This event will take place indoor.
The Maangar marks a cherished tradition exclusively for women, featuring singing, dancing to traditional tunes, and joyous celebrations. All women guests are warmly invited to partake in this culturally rich event, expected to last 2-3 hours.
Following a brief interlude, the Sangeet, a vibrant dance ceremony, will commence and is open to all. Coordinated by family members, the Sangeet promises musical revelry and entertainment from both families. With performances ranging from traditional songs to Bollywood hits and choreographed dances by the bride, groom, families, and friends, the night will culminate in an energetic dance session, inviting all guests to join in and celebrate on the lively dance floor.
It's an Indian wedding, there is no rehearsal. We wing it :)
There is no theme. Based on the events, here is our suggestion on what you can wear to blend in.
10.12.24 from 10 am : Haldi, mehndi, and bhaat.
Since it is the first event and some of you would have arrived the evening before or maybe on the same morning, we will have ordered yellow kurtas and white pajamas for all men. The kurtas also go well with regular blue jeans.
For women, we will order a traditional yellow dress.
In summary, you will be given a traditional dress for this particular event.
10.12.24 from 7 pm : Reception
You can consider this the main event where all friends and family will be present.
Men can wear a formal suit or any traditional Indian attire. Options for men are limited. The keywords you are looking for in searching for traditional Indian menswear fro a wedding are kurtas, sherwani, dhoti, nehru jacket, and modi jacket.
For women, go all in! There are many options to go for within each type of dress. The keywords you are looking for are saree, lehnga, salwar kameez, anarkali, and gowns.
On the afternoons of 9 Dec and 10 Dec, a private bus will take you to the markets and the mall, to give you some time for your shopping.
On the next day, 11 Dec, most folks from the family will be wearing traditional dresses. The options for both men and women remain the same as the keywords mentioned earlier. One main difference in the two events on this day will be that one event is outdoor and the other is indoor.
11.12.24 from 10:30 am : Wedding will be outdoor
11.12.24 from 4:30 pm : Maangar and Dance will be indoor. It is adviceable to carry a second pair of comfortable shoes for dancing :)
As an all-inclusive suggestion, you can check out this link for some ideas.
Your presence at our celebration is the best gift we could ask for. In the spirit of simplicity and shared experiences, we have decided not to create a wedding registry. Also, it is not an Indian thing :).
